First Week as a Pastor

Well,
I am currently in my first week as a pastor. We had a great service Sunday. We had about 52 in attendance. I know anytime a new pastor has his first service, people come out to see what he's all about. It will be interesting to see who all comes back next Sunday. We had a great service. I preached about "true revival." There is some momentum building in the church right now, so we are going to have to take advantage of that. The people of the church are great. They have been so welcoming. There will be more to come.

New Avenue in Life

It has been a while since I have blogged. A lot has changed, however. Tessa and I just accepted a pastorate at Uniontown Church of God in Alabama. I am going to be a senior pastor. It is a scary thing, but I know my God is faithful, and I will rely on His guidance. I am going to miss New Life though. The teens at that church amaze me. They are going to change the world. I am going to miss my family too. I am going to be over 3 hours away. God is such a faithful God. He has never let me down. This is a great church we are going to, and they have great people. I will talk more about it later.

Back From Vacation

We just had a wonderful vacation in Gulf Shores. My wife's cousin Chad was married on the beach, and I had the honor of performing part of the ceremony. We stayed in a beach house with 6 bedrooms. Guess what? You have no sinus problems on the beach. I am going to post some pics.

My Frustration with the Emergent Movement

I'm all for emerging. I believe that we should stretch our imagininations and get out of the metaphorical box to reach a generation. I am there. However, I do have a problem with the emergent movement that is growning ever so popular in our churches. I think it is a good thing to use different techniques to reach people, Jesus modeled that for us, but when we become so afraid that we are going to look "churchy" we endanger ourselves. I am a Pentecostal and I am proud of that fact. I read in Acts 2 that "suddenly" there was a sound like a mighty rushing wind. I believe that there are many signs that the Holy Spirit is operating in our churches, but I also believe that we still need the "suddenly" to occur. We serve a powerful God, and our church, the Church of God has a rich heritage, and although we tend to move in new directions at time (to which I think is great) I still believe in the spontaneous movement of the Holy Ghost. When did our churches become afraid to run, to shout, to rejoice in the Holy Spirit of God. Anyway, that is my vent. I welcome any comments. Let me know what you think.

My First Blog

Well I'm not a blogger. I am going to try this out. We will see if I stick with it. I think it will be interesting to see if this becomes a new hobby of mine. I really don't know why people blog, but I am going to give it a try. I am looking to make some changes in my life, and I think blogging about 3 times a week should give me some structure. I will probably write back later tonight, but right now my wife really wants the computer, because she all of a sudden decided she wanted to blog too, she's so cute.
